Roof Moss Removal
How to remove moss without the need for pressue washing
The simplest and often the cheapest way is to instruct a general roofing company to physically scrape the moss off. Most will be happy to carry out this type of work. The added bonus is they will clear out your gutters as they carry out the moss removal and replace any broken tiles as they make their way accross your roof. You are basically getting a roof 'overhaul' - all in one price.
It is really that simple to remove the moss, assuming the work is done on a dry day the moss will come loose very easily - pressure washers that can damage the protective surface of the tile and remove any colour are never required to remove roof moss.
Should I coat the roof with a protective sealant?
Before accepting a quotation to "paint" a roof you may want
to have a read of this Daily Mail newspaper article which to be fair
is at the extreme end of what can go wrong - but are roof coatings really required?
Typical concrete tiles have a life span in excess of 100 years
In the United Kingdom most concrete roof tiles are supplied with a guarantee in excess of 50 years and an expected lifespan in excess of 100 years. In reality there is rarely the need to apply a coating or sealant to the suface of the tile. If a tile were to leak then replacement is the best option as most coatings will suffer wear and tear and have a short life span. It is also worth noting that most manufacturers warranties do not cover the tile after the roof has been pressure washed.
