Birds Nest in Loft
Birds often enter the loft from the eaves which is the section of the roof that overhangs the building. This is most common during the breding season which is around mid April.
It is best not to disturb an active nest, regardless of the breed. However bird entry to a loft can be prevented by using the products/suggestions shown below.
Bird comb to prevent entry of birds into loft
This simple and cheap plastic product will prevent birds from entering the loft via the eaves.
It is simple to install and can be purchased from most upvc guttering suppliers
The comb is fixed to the top edge of the fascia board with nails - it is suitable for replacement upvc boards or existing timber.
Using cement to prevent bird and squirrels from entering the loft
While the bird comb product offers some protection it is too flimsy to prevent squirrels from entering the loft.
If the property has had previous problems with squirrels chewing the roof fascia boards and entering the loft then the best solution is to bed the bottom row of tiles to the
top of the fascia board with cement.
